Cody Rhodes Says He Wants to Return for Street Fighter 2
The new live-action Street Fighter movie, featuring Cody Rhodes as Guile and Noah Centineo as Ken, is generating excitement about potential sequels and franchise crossovers despite receiving mixed critical reviews. The film marks a significant moment for both actors—Rhodes, who played Street Fighter as a child, says he couldn’t have imagined portraying Guile at that time.
During interviews about the film’s future, cast members have expressed enthusiasm for continuing the franchise. Cody Rhodes stated he wants to make a Street Fighter sequel and emphasized that Street Fighter 2—the classic video game—was the franchise’s greatest iteration. More notably, Rhodes teased the possibility of a crossover between Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, a dream matchup for fighting game fans since the 1990s.
Noah Centineo echoed the sentiment, calling a potential Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat crossover “sick.” However, Ed Boon, a key figure in the Mortal Kombat franchise, offered a measured response to the crossover pitch, suggesting “Game First, Then Movie”—implying that any crossover should first exist in video game form before being adapted to film.
The crossover speculation comes as Paramount and Warner Bros. have merged to form Skydance, potentially creating new opportunities for collaboration between properties. While the current Street Fighter film has received mixed reviews, the cast’s enthusiasm for sequels and crossovers suggests confidence in the franchise’s potential to expand with future installments.
