‘We F***ed Up’ — Wardogs Boss Admits Season 2 Hasn’t Gone Particularly Well

Wardogs Season 2 launched with an experiment to address a persistent balance problem: the Blue Team, known as Lonestar, had suffered from poor winrates and damaged reputation among players. Developer Bulkhead introduced bonus XP and cash rewards exclusively for Blue Team players in an attempt to attract more skilled players to the faction and improve their competitive standing.

The strategy backfired spectacularly within 24 hours. Rather than simply encouraging participation, the generous bonuses allowed experienced players to rapidly farm resources on Blue Team, quickly acquiring the game’s best armor and most powerful weapons. This shifted the balance so dramatically that Blue Team began winning “by far, the most,” inverting the original problem.

Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer promptly acknowledged the failure in a video announcement, stating frankly: “We were wrong. We fucked up. This was an experiment—we thought we’d have this in for about [an unspecified duration].” The developer immediately scrapped the bonus system, ending the balancing experiment after just one day.

The incident underscores the challenges of live-service game balance, where well-intentioned solutions can create unintended consequences when players discover exploitable mechanics. Wardogs, currently in early access, will need to find alternative approaches to address Blue Team’s persistent competitive disadvantage without overcorrecting in the opposite direction.
