Dev Behind Russian Roulette Drinking Game Cancels Steam Demo Plans Following AI Copycat Concerns

The developer of the upcoming indie horror game Drunken Goddess Reflux has canceled its planned public Steam demo, originally scheduled for October 19, citing concerns about potential AI clones. Alliance Arts and Who You announced the decision through a Steam update, apologizing for the short notice.

Drunken Goddess Reflux is a unique drinking game centered around “shot glass Russian roulette” gameplay featuring an anime demon character. Since its announcement in April, the game had maintained a relatively smooth development path toward its December launch window. The public demo was intended to give players a first-hand experience of the game’s distinctive premise and aesthetic, characterized by ghostly pinks and purples.

However, the developer expressed concern that releasing the demo publicly would expose it to AI-powered content generation tools, which could rapidly clone or replicate the game’s mechanics and style. This decision reflects growing industry tensions around generative AI and game development—specifically the use of “AI vibe coders” that can potentially create derivative content from existing game assets and designs.

In place of the public demo, Alliance Arts and Who You will conduct private preview sessions for selected players, allowing them to maintain creative control over how the game is presented while still gathering feedback before the full release. The move underscores broader anxieties within the indie game community about protecting unique creative works in an era of rapidly advancing AI tools.
