‘I Don’t Think We’re Seeing It Here’: GTA 6 Launch Trailer Not Using PS5’s New QSSR Upscaler
Sony has introduced QSSR, a version of the PS5 Pro’s acclaimed PSSR upscaler technology, bringing advanced upscaling capabilities to base PS5 hardware. Currently, QSSR is integrated into first-party PlayStation titles Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei, with plans to make the technology available to third-party developers.
Contrary to speculation that Sony’s introduction of QSSR may have been specifically timed to coincide with GTA 6’s release, Rockstar Games’ launch trailer for the game does not utilize the new upscaler. This represents a notable decision point for third-party adoption of the technology.
The availability of QSSR on base PS5 marks a significant upgrade, as the upscaling technology was previously exclusive to PS5 Pro hardware. As the technology becomes accessible to additional developers, the gaming industry will observe whether major publishers choose to implement QSSR in their upcoming titles.
