Oh dear, half a year after launching Samson, Swedish developer Liquid Swords have filed for bankruptcy
Swedish game developer Liquid Swords has filed for bankruptcy approximately six months after launching its game Samson, marking a significant setback for the studio. On October 12th, the Stockholm District Court issued a formal bankruptcy order against the company.
Samson, described as an open-world beat ’em up game with Grand Theft Auto-like mechanics, follows a narrative centered on dealing with debt, driving aging vehicles, and rescuing a sister. Upon its release earlier in 2026, the game struggled commercially and critically, hampered by significant technical issues and bugs that undermined the overall experience.
While Liquid Swords released patches intended to address the game’s problems, these updates proved insufficient to turn the title’s fortunes around or stabilize the company’s financial situation. The poor reception and failed commercial performance ultimately contributed to the studio’s inability to sustain operations.
The bankruptcy has severe consequences for the studio’s workforce, with nearly 30 employees affected by the closure. According to Swedish reports, the Swedish state has intervened to cover unpaid salaries for affected workers, providing some financial relief during the transition.
