How to descend the Catacombs of Paris in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a metroidvania game featuring protagonist Rose navigating Dracula’s castle to collect three keys by defeating early bosses including The Fallen, Joan of Arc, and Medusa. After obtaining these keys, Rose descends into the Paris Catacombs, a long and winding area filled with deadly traps, spinning discs, and challenging enemies that require mastery of abilities like Holy Light to phase through Chaos Shards.
The game includes several other difficult locations, including a Clock Tower featuring rotating blades where players must confront the Zealot boss at its summit, and Notre Dame Cathedral, which houses a puzzle involving a giant organ controlled by the Shadow Arcana boss Death. Players must discover three melodies to progress, with hints of a hidden fourth melody hidden elsewhere.
Gameplay emphasizes exploration and discovery, with Rose equipped with seven weapon families, each featuring four possible upgrades hidden throughout the castle. The game also includes over 40 relics that players can collect and equip—though only three can be equipped simultaneously—providing buffs and potentially game-breaking abilities reminiscent of classic Castlevania titles.
Additional elements include Alucard-themed paintings scattered throughout the main hall that hold hidden significance, connecting to the broader Castlevania narrative. The game’s design emphasizes both combat complexity and environmental puzzle-solving, marking a significant departure from traditional Castlevania mechanics.
