Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Hard Mode is available from the start this time, so you won’t need to replay the mammoth RPG to get to the good stuff

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will make a significant change to how Hard Mode functions compared to previous entries in the remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi announced that players will be able to access Hard Mode from the very beginning of the game, eliminating the need to complete the full adventure first as was required in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth.

This accessibility change is part of a broader redesign of the difficulty experience. Hamaguchi explained that the Hard Mode has been “reimagined” to align with Revelation’s new game design philosophy. The early availability is made possible by the game’s world design, with Gaia opening up significantly earlier in the narrative than in previous installments.

The change is part of several quality-of-life improvements for Revelation. The game’s Platinum Trophy has also been confirmed to be more achievable than in Rebirth, making the game more accessible to players seeking 100% completion without excessive grinding or repeated playthroughs.

The third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027. Director Hamaguchi, who has led the remake project for nearly a decade, continues to refine the series based on community feedback and evolving design goals. The Revelation team’s willingness to redesign systems like Hard Mode and trophy requirements suggests a commitment to balancing challenge with accessibility for the trilogy’s conclusion.
