Hideo Kojima Returns To Night City For Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2
Hideo Kojima is making a cameo appearance in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, which launches on Netflix on October 20, 2026. The legendary game designer will reprise his role as Hideyoshi Oshima, a braindance director and producer from Tokyo who previously appeared in Cyberpunk 2077.
In Cyberpunk 2077, Oshima is a character focused on creating emotionally resonant braindance experiences rather than the more sensationalized content that popularized the technology. The character was modeled after and voiced by Kojima in the original game, appearing during the “Heist” mission at Konpeki Plaza. The game also contained an Easter egg featuring a Bridge Baby Pod, a reference to Kojima’s acclaimed game Death Stranding.
While Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 features a largely new cast compared to the first season, Kojima’s involvement bridges the gap between the video game and the Netflix anime adaptation. CD Projekt Red confirmed the casting through social media, indicating that Kojima’s role is more substantial than a throwaway cameo. Kojima himself responded enthusiastically to the announcement, sharing photos from his recording session and expressing excitement about returning to Night City.
The return underscores the collaborative relationship between CD Projekt Red and other prominent figures in the gaming industry, while demonstrating the continued expansion of the Cyberpunk universe across multiple media formats.
