Around 60 Netflix Games staff affected amid company-wide layoffs
Netflix has cut approximately 60 staff from its Games division as part of a broader workforce reduction affecting the streaming platform. A Google Sheet shared on LinkedIn documents 57 displaced workers from games roles seeking new employment.
The cuts are part of Netflix’s larger workforce reduction of around 6% announced on October 14, which disproportionately impacted product, technology, legal, and HR teams. The company has not publicly disclosed the specific number of games staff affected.
The layoffs represent an acceleration of recent challenges within Netflix’s gaming division. Refactor, which developed a Netflix-exclusive FIFA World Cup tie-in game, previously experienced cuts affecting up to 85% of its staff. Netflix has now shuttered Night School Studio, the Los Angeles-based developer of Oxenfree, as well as the Helsinki-based studio Moonloot. Additional reductions have occurred across Netflix’s internal games teams. The moves signal ongoing uncertainty regarding Netflix’s long-term strategic commitment to the gaming market.
