Nintendo “Underestimated” Zelda Switch 2 Console Sales, But Promises Restocks Are On The Way
Nintendo has acknowledged underestimating demand for its special edition Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console, which has faced significant supply shortages since its reveal last month.
In a recent interview with YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, Nintendo’s Latin America Vice President and General Manager Bill van Zyll confirmed that the company had underestimated consumer interest in the exclusive console variant. The admission comes as pre-orders for the special edition have become increasingly difficult to secure, leaving many enthusiasts unable to purchase the hardware.
The Zelda-themed Switch 2 console was highly anticipated by fans of The Legend of Zelda franchise and early adopters seeking the newest Nintendo hardware with collectible branding. The rapid sellout of available inventory suggests Nintendo’s initial stock estimates failed to account for the strong appeal of this particular variant.
However, Nintendo has provided reassurance to those still seeking the console. Van Zyll stated that restocks are coming and asked consumers for patience as the company works to fulfill demand. Nintendo did not specify timeline details for when additional inventory would become available, but the statement indicates the supply issues are temporary rather than permanent.
The shortage reflects a pattern common in gaming hardware launches, where special edition variants often exceed manufacturer expectations. As Nintendo prepares for continued Switch 2 adoption, management hopes additional stock will help satisfy pent-up demand from consumers who missed the initial pre-order window.
