Lord of the Rings Director Says He’s Finally Making His Tintin Sequel
After more than a decade in development limbo, filmmaker Peter Jackson has finally confirmed that a sequel to the 2011 film The Adventures of Tintin is actively progressing, with a completed script. The original film, directed by Steven Spielberg, brought Hergé’s beloved comic series to life on screen. When Spielberg and producer Jackson initially announced the sequel in the early 2010s, it was promised for 2014 or 2015 with Jackson set to direct—a timeline that proved wildly optimistic. For years, fans heard nothing as the project remained stalled in development. Speaking at Spain’s Sitges Film Festival, a venue celebrating fantasy, horror, and cult cinema, Jackson reiterated his commitment to the long-awaited sequel. He stated that the screenplay has already been completed and that Tintin 2 will be his next directorial project. This announcement follows Jackson’s May confirmation that the project was still moving forward, finally offering hope that the sequel might actually reach production.
