PS5 games are now running on the Xbox One through more unusual emulation

PS5 games are now running on Xbox One through emulation, expanding on earlier demonstrations of PS5 compatibility on Xbox Series X. The project uses Xbox Developer Mode and an AI-driven port of KytyPS5, a PC-based emulator adapted for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps. Currently, Quake II and Marvel Cosmic Invasion are confirmed to run on the older Xbox One hardware.

The performance results raise significant questions about the technical feasibility of the approach. On the more powerful Xbox Series X, performance has been modest at best, with Astro Bot running at approximately 10 frames per second—well below the threshold for comfortable playability. This early-stage performance suggests substantial optimization work remains before the emulation reaches practical usability.

Given the Series X’s performance limitations, the viability of running PS5 games on the less powerful Xbox One is questionable. The project remains in active development, with developers likely expecting notable performance improvements over time. The effort demonstrates both the creative potential of developer mode environments and the significant engineering challenges involved in cross-platform emulation of current-generation console games.
