PS5 “bullet ballet” game Saros gets a big update to make it both easier and harder

Housemarque has released Zenith, a substantial free update bringing Saros to version 2.0 on PS5. The 3.5 GB update launches with features designed to appeal to both newcomers intimidated by the bullet-hell roguelike’s difficulty and veterans seeking additional content.

For accessibility, the update introduces a “Slow Game Speed” setting allowing players to adjust enemy bullet pattern velocity with manual or automatic triggering options. An auto-fire feature also lowers the barrier to entry for new players.

For experienced players, Zenith adds significant replayability through several features: Overlord Rush, a boss rush mode where players tackle the game’s bosses in separate three-fight sets with dedicated leaderboards; New Game+ mode featuring new Armor Matrix nodes that unlock Eclipse Layers with increased difficulty and deadlier enemy types; and ten new “Carcosan Modifiers” providing granular difficulty customization. One example modifier, “Hostile Regeneration,” allows players to stun larger enemies but requires melee finishes before recovery.

Additional content includes new trophies, a training simulation, and golden crown powerups. The free update exemplifies a player-focused live-service approach, delivering substantial new modes and accessibility options to maintain engagement across both casual and hardcore audiences.
