Star Wars Zero Company adds new difficulty options that can bring it closer to XCOM

Star Wars Zero Company has received a significant quality-of-life update with patch 1.2, introducing a granular difficulty customization system that allows players to tailor the tactical experience to their preferences. Rather than simply adjusting enemy statistics, the new options focus on creative and mechanical tweaks that reshape how difficulty manifests in gameplay.

The patch enables players to configure core survival mechanics with precision. Key additions include the ability to remove the injury system entirely, converting downed operatives into instant fatalities, or alternatively adjusting the threshold before permanent death occurs. Players can also introduce additional permadeath risk when operatives are downed, raising the stakes in tactical encounters. The scaling system itself can be modified or eliminated, making operatives more fragile as the game progresses and preventing the power scaling that typically characterizes late-game operations.

These granular options move beyond traditional difficulty modes by offering a modular approach to challenge customization. This design philosophy echoes tactical games like XCOM, where players can configure specific rule sets to create personalized difficulty profiles. The patch demonstrates the developer’s commitment to player agency, allowing both hardcore tactical enthusiasts and casual players to find their ideal experience through a single cohesive system.
