Stupid Never Dies – 26 Minute Full Dungeon Run Gameplay
Stupid Never Dies, the debut title from Japanese developer GPTRACK50, has arrived on PlayStation 5 and PC to sharply divided critical reception. The action roguelite, founded by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a veteran Capcom producer, tasks players with controlling a zombie that can “Style Eat” enemies to absorb their abilities, leveling up through multiple dungeon environments and confronting increasingly challenging bosses.
The game’s core appeal lies in its distinctive visual identity—described as “scribblecore”—paired with a deliberately juvenile sense of humor and colorful brawler aesthetics centered on zombie protagonist gameplay. Gameplay footage demonstrates the mechanic in action across extensive dungeon runs, with style-based combat forming the foundation of the progression system.
However, critical assessment has proven polarized. Polygon’s review was scathing, with the critic spending 26 hours with the game only to conclude it represents a “regressive” action experience hampered by an uncomfortable narrative, repetitive faux-roguelike structure, and dated design philosophy. The reviewer framed it as an unintended time capsule of mid-2000s gaming sensibilities—colorful, zombie-focused, and aimed squarely at teenage male audiences.
Conversely, Push Square’s assessment positioned Stupid Never Dies as a standout entry in an increasingly crowded roguelite landscape, praising its unhinged creative direction and willingness to embrace unconventional design. The tension between these perspectives highlights ongoing debate within gaming circles about whether nostalgic, unapologetically juvenile design represents either bold artistic statement or creative stagnation.
The game is currently available on PS5 and PC platforms.
