Xodus Nexus successfully brings Game Pass games to Linux
An independent developer has successfully enabled Xbox Game Pass games to run on Linux through a new launcher called Xodus Nexus. The project builds on the Xodus initiative, which was reported two months prior and aimed to bring Xbox PC games to Linux and macOS.
Xodus Nexus, created by developer domsvoboda, represents a significant technical achievement—allowing Game Pass titles to run natively on Linux devices, including the Steam Deck and Steam machines. The launcher supports recent high-profile releases such as Gears of War: E-Day, demonstrating that modern AAA titles can be played through the unofficial project.
The breakthrough addresses a long-standing limitation of Xbox Game Pass: the subscription service’s PC library was previously restricted to Windows-based devices. This meant users of alternative operating systems and handheld gaming platforms like the Steam Deck were unable to access Game Pass content.
The project leverages Proton, a compatibility layer that enables Windows games to run on Linux. By building on the foundational work of Xodus—which focused on removing digital rights management restrictions—Xodus Nexus has created a functional pathway for Game Pass games to reach Linux users.
While Xodus Nexus is unofficial and independent, its success raises questions about expanding Game Pass compatibility beyond Windows and demonstrates both technical feasibility and user demand for Game Pass access on alternative platforms.
