After talking to Capcom, I’m a lot more optimistic about Onimusha 3 getting a remaster
Capcom is increasingly focused on PC, with the platform now generating the majority of the company’s revenue. Following the major success of Monster Hunter: World in 2018, Capcom has shifted its strategy to include both new AAA titles and remasters of classic games previously unavailable on PC. Recent examples include Dead Rising and remasters of the first two Onimusha games, bringing the classic PlayStation 2 samurai franchise to modern platforms.
Onimusha 3, the third entry in the series featuring French actor Jean Reno, has long been considered an unlikely candidate for a remaster due to licensing complications and the costs associated with using the actor’s likeness rights. However, following recent conversations with Capcom, a journalist has expressed increased optimism about the possibility of the game receiving a remaster, suggesting the company may have found solutions to these previously cited obstacles.
Capcom has stated it “expects this ratio to continue increasing” regarding PC revenue, indicating a long-term strategic commitment to the platform. This shift reflects how major legacy publishers are increasingly prioritizing PC accessibility for their back catalogs alongside new releases.
