A New DC Green Lantern Has Officially Been Unveiled
DC Comics has announced a new Green Lantern miniseries titled Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos, offering fans a fresh interpretation of the iconic superhero team following the cancellation of HBO’s Lanterns without a second season renewal.
Written by Dan Watters and illustrated by Kyle Hotz, Doomed Cosmos is an Elseworlds story existing outside DC’s main continuity. The series adopts an aesthetic heavily inspired by Warhammer 40,000, depicting the Green Lantern Corps as heavily armed, militaristic warriors rather than their traditional portrayal. The story features large-scale battles and weaponry characteristic of grimdark science fiction.
The narrative centers on the Empire of Humanity’s expansion across space through conquest, with only the reinforced Green Lanterns positioned to oppose their advance. Hal Jordan plays a crucial role as the sole human Green Lantern fighting against the Empire. This setup creates the high-stakes cosmic conflict at the miniseries’ core.
The announcement demonstrates DC’s continued investment in exploring diverse interpretations of the Green Lantern franchise across multiple media formats. The collaboration between Watters and Hotz promises a visually distinct take on the property, blending superhero storytelling with grimdark, militaristic science fiction aesthetics.
While HBO’s Lanterns live-action adaptation did not receive renewal, this comic miniseries underscores the publisher’s commitment to delivering new narratives and visual styles for the established character and its dedicated fanbase.
