Fight Night, EA’s Beloved but Long-Dormant Boxing Sim Franchise, Is Coming Back
Electronic Arts has announced the return of its long-dormant Fight Night boxing franchise via a newly created social media account, posting: “To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back.”
This marks a significant moment for fans who have waited 15 years since Fight Night Champion released on Xbox 360 and PS3. The franchise was a beloved staple during the PS2 and PS3 eras before entering dormancy.
Details about the revival remain minimal. EA has not confirmed whether the project will be a new game, remake, or remaster, nor which studio will develop it. Historically, the series was developed by EA Canada in Vancouver and the now-defunct EA Chicago.
The announcement comes after original plans for Fight Night’s return were reportedly canceled approximately one year ago. However, with EA’s acquisition by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the new leadership has apparently revisited the franchise. The Saudi fund’s substantial involvement in professional boxing may have influenced the decision to revive the series.
The franchise maintains a dedicated fanbase, as evidenced by the strong social media response to the announcement, which garnered tens of thousands of likes and millions of views within hours. Further details about the project are anticipated in coming months.
