This Year’s Most Underrated Fantasy Film Officially Lands on Digital Early
Forgotten Island, an animated fantasy film, failed to achieve commercial success during its September theatrical release despite earning strong critical and audience reviews, currently holding a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film largely escaped audience attention amid competing releases including Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Resident Evil, and Primetime, likely due to limited marketing or unfavorable release timing.
Universal announced the film will be available for digital rental and purchase starting October 27, 2026, several months before its arrival on streaming platforms. Physical media editions will follow at a later date. The digital release strategy offers viewers a second opportunity to discover the underrated film beyond theatrical exhibition.
Forgotten Island exemplifies a recurring industry challenge where quality films can be commercially overlooked despite critical success, emphasizing the significant role marketing and timing play in determining a film’s box office performance, sometimes outweighing critical reception.
