Exclusive: 2 Critical Role Heroes Team Up in The Mighty Nein’s Groundbreaking New Sequel
Critical Role’s The Mighty Nein universe is expanding with a new novel titled The Mighty Nein - Children of the Empire, published by Random House Worlds. Written by acclaimed author Nibedita Sen, a Hugo, Ignyte, and Nebula Award nominee, the novel focuses on two characters known as the “Empire Kids”: Caleb Widogast and Beauregard Lionett, as they navigate their own story within the campaign’s fictional world.
The release represents another addition to the growing collection of spin-off material surrounding The Mighty Nein since the animated series debuted in December 2025. Previous expansions have included the novel Critical Role: The Mighty Nein - Stories Untold and live-show one-shots such as Projekt Funball. According to the announcement, many of the core adventuring party members are settling down after facing powerful organizations and overwhelming odds, creating space for new narratives centered on secondary characters.
