Microsoft won’t like this open source project to get Game Pass working on SteamOS and Linux, but I think it’s pretty neat

Xodus Nexus is an experimental open-source project that enables Linux and SteamOS users to access Microsoft’s PC Game Pass service. Users can browse, install, and launch Game Pass titles through a familiar interface with cloud save support for compatible games. The GitHub repository lists numerous supported titles, including major releases like Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft for Windows, and Halo: Campaign Evolved.

The project emerges during a period of growing Linux gaming adoption. Windows 11’s unpopularity among some users, combined with Valve’s continued SteamOS development and Steam Deck’s success, has expanded the Linux gaming community. Xodus Nexus addresses demand for Game Pass access outside Microsoft’s official Windows platform.

While the project’s legal status is unclear, Microsoft’s preference for keeping Game Pass exclusive to Windows suggests the company is unlikely to welcome this initiative. The project demonstrates community efforts to expand cross-platform access to gaming services and highlights the ongoing tension between proprietary ecosystems and open-source alternatives.
