Baldur’s Gate 3 Returns With New Official Sequel Series

Baldur’s Gate 3 is expanding into television with a new HBO series adaptation. The announcement reveals that Craig Mazin, best known as co-creator of HBO’s The Last of Us, is partnering with Hasbro Entertainment to bring the acclaimed role-playing game to the small screen. Mazin will serve as co-creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the new series, simply titled Baldur’s Gate.

The television adaptation will continue the story directly from where Baldur’s Gate 3 concluded, maintaining narrative continuity with the game’s events and allowing the show to build upon the game’s acclaimed characters and branching storylines. This approach leverages the game’s reputation for memorable characters and player choice that made it one of gaming’s most enduring Dungeons & Dragons adaptations.

Meanwhile, Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, will not be creating the next Baldur’s Gate game. Instead, the studio is focusing development efforts on a different project called Divinity. Despite stepping back from further direct game sequels, Baldur’s Gate 3’s legacy will continue through this television expansion, demonstrating the intellectual property’s strength across multiple entertainment mediums.
