EA Sports Confirms It’s Developing an Open-World Football Game

Electronic Arts has announced the development of Project Gridiron, a new open-world football game that operates separately from its existing Madden and College Football franchises. Described as a “brand-new, social-first open-world experience,” the game represents a significant expansion in EA Sports’ portfolio beyond its traditional simulation-focused titles.

The announcement came via a letter outlining EA’s future direction across its various gaming divisions. The company stated that EA Sports “continues to operate from a position of strength” and remains “fully committed and investing in the global growth” of its sports franchises and broader portfolio.

Alongside Project Gridiron, EA also confirmed the return of Fight Night, its boxing simulation franchise, marking the series’ first new entry in over a decade. While these announcements signal EA’s commitment to expanding its sports gaming offerings, the company has provided limited details beyond the project name and its open-world, socially-oriented design philosophy. EA indicated that more information about Project Gridiron will be shared in the coming months.
