PC gamers can finally play a beloved 2010 PS3 masterpiece

Sony is bringing the original God of War trilogy to PC, finally ending a long platform exclusivity and allowing PC players access to the franchise’s legendary Greek mythology-focused roots. The move comes after PC players have only had official access to the Norse-era entries—God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok—on Steam.

The trilogy’s PC release coincides with several major franchise announcements. Sony revealed a full remake of the original trilogy being rebuilt from the ground up for PS5, alongside the announcement of Sons of Sparta, a new 2D prequel, and God of War Laufey, the next mainline entry in the series.

For newer players who entered the franchise through the 2018 reboot or its sequel, this represents a significant gap-closer. The original PlayStation and PS3 games established the series as a cultural phenomenon, and their absence from PC has left modern PC gamers unable to experience the foundational titles that defined the franchise. The PC release addresses this preservation gap and potentially expands the God of War audience significantly by allowing both longtime fans and newcomers to experience the complete saga across multiple platforms.
