Feature: Inside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4: The New Game-Changing Tech Powering Every Mode

Infinity Ward showcased significant technical advancements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 at its Krakow research and development centre. Studio head Michal Drobot presented debug footage demonstrating how current-generation hardware on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC enables unprecedented visual and systemic improvements across all game modes.

The presentation highlighted three major technical upgrades: ray-marched smoke and fog effects, rasterisation techniques informed by path tracing technology, and a comprehensively reworked animation and movement system. These enhancements represent a substantial leap forward in visual fidelity and environmental realism for the franchise.

While a Nintendo Switch 2 version is launching in parallel through Digital Legends, Infinity Ward’s primary engine development focuses on pushing performance and graphical boundaries on high-end platforms. The technical showcase demonstrates the studio’s commitment to leveraging current-generation hardware capabilities, with particular emphasis on environmental effects and character animation quality that define the next generation of the Call of Duty franchise.
