Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 brings back the DMZ game mode, serving as the title’s third major experience alongside campaign and multiplayer. This marks the first return of DMZ since Modern Warfare 3, replacing the traditional Zombies or wave-based survival modes that have historically occupied this role in Call of Duty releases.
Unlike Warzone, which operates as a free-to-play title, DMZ is not freely accessible—it requires purchase of the full Modern Warfare 4 package. Players must own the complete game to access DMZ content, similar to other bonus game modes in the franchise. The mode provides a fundamentally different experience from both the campaign and standard online multiplayer.
DMZ represents Activision’s consolidated approach to alternative gameplay in MW4, consolidating what were previously separate zombie and survival offerings into a single unified mode.
