Poison Ivy Show in Early Development with Penguin Showrunner in Talks to Produce
Poison Ivy is getting her own live-action television series in early development. Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner and executive producer of HBO’s critically acclaimed The Penguin series, is currently in talks to produce the Poison Ivy show. If greenlit, the series will be developed for HBO’s streaming platform.
The show is notable for what it won’t be: it will not be part of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, which includes the films The Batman and the related streaming series The Penguin, collectively referred to as the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.” This means viewers shouldn’t expect to see Colin Farrell’s Penguin character or Robert Pattinson’s Batman appearing in the Poison Ivy series.
Details remain sparse at this stage of development. According to reports, it’s unclear whether the Poison Ivy show will be integrated into the larger DC Universe alongside other announced projects like Superman, Lanterns, and various upcoming films, or if it will exist in its own separate universe entirely. The series would join other DC villain-focused projects like Clayface, which is similarly in development outside of the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.”
The involvement of LeFranc is significant given The Penguin’s critical success. Her attachment to produce suggests HBO is treating the project as a priority with experienced creative leadership, though the show remains in very early development stages and has not yet been formally greenlit.
