I keep embarrassing myself in front of the nature gods in handpainted 2D roguelike Talaka, whose colourful, combative demo is out now

Talaka is a hand-painted, watercolor 2D action-roguelike that debuted at Gamescom Latam 2026 in São Paulo. The game draws deep inspiration from Brazilian culture and Afro-Brazilian Candomblé mythology, featuring Orishas—nature-based divine figures from the religious tradition—as central antagonists and forces to overcome. This mythological approach distinguishes Talaka from spiritually-similar titles like Hades, which draw from Greco-Roman traditions instead.

The game features side-scrolling action-roguelike gameplay presented with a vibrant, colorful watercolor aesthetic achieved through hand-painted artwork. A playable demo is currently available during Steam Next Fest, allowing players to experience the game’s unique visual style and challenging combat mechanics. According to preview coverage, while Talaka excels in visual presentation and artistic direction, the gameplay itself presents substantial difficulty, requiring skill and precision from players engaging with its roguelike systems.
