Vivrato: 97% of studio leaders use AI in some form during development in EU and North America
A new report from consultancy firm Vivrato reveals that 97% of studio leaders in Europe and North America use AI in some form during game development. The study, based on 101 interviews with studio leaders conducted between April and September 2026, found that 94% of studios have utilized AI across at least one of the nine production stages in game creation.
The research examined six distinct categories of AI implementation: generative AI, rules-based automation, fine-tuned or custom-trained models, classical machine learning, retrieval-augmented systems, and agentic systems. This comprehensive scope reflects the diverse ways studios are integrating artificial intelligence into their development pipelines.
The high adoption rate suggests that AI has become a standard tool within the game development industry, with near-universal acceptance among studio leadership in these regions. The study’s focus on production stages indicates that AI is being applied across multiple phases of game development, from initial concept and pre-production through post-launch support and updates.
