Xbox Game Pass Heading For A Massive Shakeup, Report Says

Microsoft is planning a major overhaul of Xbox Game Pass, according to reporting by Fortune. Under the new structure, the service would operate on a tiered model that allows players to select features à la carte, rather than a single unified subscription.

Available options under the à la carte system would reportedly include cloud gaming, multiplayer access, and add-ons specifically for console-only games. This restructuring represents a significant departure from Game Pass’s current all-inclusive model.

The reported changes align with previous rumors about Microsoft’s long-term plans for the service. Earlier reports suggested the company was considering introducing ad-supported tiers as an alternative to the standard subscription, while also signaling an end to day-one releases of first-party titles on Game Pass. Additionally, Microsoft is reportedly developing a Family Plan option for the service.

The overhaul comes amid broader changes to Game Pass under CEO Asha Sharma’s leadership, including the recent decision to exclude new Call of Duty releases from the membership. These modifications suggest Microsoft is shifting its monetization strategy for the service, likely aimed at increasing revenue while offering more flexible subscription options to players.
