Star Wars: Battlefront 3 reportedly being co-developed by Battlefield studio DICE and Apex Legends studio Respawn

Star Wars: Battlefront 3 is reportedly in development at Electronic Arts, being co-developed by DICE and Respawn Entertainment. Multiple sources reported the project to Variety, and EA’s leadership subsequently confirmed to staff that the two studios would collaborate on an unnamed “future project.” While not officially named, reports indicate that Battlefront 3 is the collaboration in question.

The announcement comes amid significant restructuring at EA following the company’s recent acquisition by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. Earlier this year, EA underwent major layoffs affecting approximately 400 employees—3% of its global workforce—and shut down the legendary BioWare studio, cancelling the in-development Mass Effect project. The Battlefront collaboration represents EA’s effort to consolidate resources and redirect development focus after this consolidation.

DICE, developer of the Battlefield franchise and previous Battlefront titles, contributes extensive multiplayer and shooter expertise. Respawn Entertainment, known for Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games, brings action gameplay experience and established Star Wars universe knowledge. The partnership merges two of EA’s most accomplished studios in their respective specialties.

Rumors of a third Battlefront game had circulated prior to this confirmation, building anticipation among the franchise’s fanbase. The last major Battlefront release was Star Wars Battlefront II in 2017. The collaboration suggests EA intends to revitalize the Battlefront franchise as part of its broader strategic restructuring under new ownership.
