‘Clayface’ Officially Sets Up Another Iconic Batman Villain in the DC Universe
The Clayface production has revealed hints suggesting another iconic Batman villain will appear in the DC Universe. Set photos from filming in Liverpool during summer 2025 captured graffiti that included the tag “The Jokers,” sparking speculation about the Joker’s inclusion in the DC Universe’s Gotham.
The plural form of “Jokers” generated two leading theories. Some fans suggested it could reference a 2020 DC Comics storyline introducing three distinct Joker personas—the clown, the criminal, and the comedian—designed to explain personality inconsistencies in the character across eight decades of comic history. Others theorized “The Jokers” could reference the Joker gang, typically portrayed in DC Comics as street-level criminals who idolize the primary Joker character.
This discovery represents another promotional hint about the expanding villain roster within the DC Universe’s Gotham. Set Easter eggs have become common in major film productions, allowing filmmakers to subtly tease upcoming character appearances and broader world-building elements.
