Epic Announces AI MegaJam for Unreal and UEFN Makers

Epic Games is hosting the AI MegaJam, a four-day game jam event scheduled for November 12-15, 2026. Developers will create games using Unreal Engine or UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) with AI tools, with the competition theme to be revealed on November 11. The event offers significant cash prizes, including $50,000 continuation grants for selected projects.

Initially, Epic stated that AI usage was mandatory for participation. The company later walked back this requirement, clarifying that participants can use as little or as much AI as they want, and updated its FAQ and rules accordingly. This shift emphasizes that while AI integration is encouraged, it remains optional.

The promotional materials featured AI-generated imagery: a hand with six fingers holding a red pill—symbolizing the ability to ship games in a weekend—contrasted with a normal hand holding a blue pill, representing traditional months-long development cycles. The event reflects Epic’s broader commitment to integrating AI capabilities into Unreal Engine 6 and supporting developer adoption of AI-assisted game development.
