VR pioneer Owlchemy Labs jumps to XR for its next release
Owlchemy Labs, a pioneering virtual reality studio, is entering the extended reality (XR) market with its new game Hyper Visor. The title, described as an “original XR arcade blaster,” will serve as a launch title for HTC’s XREAL Aura headset and will be available on the Google Play Store for $1.99.
The game utilizes hand-based controls and features “living shades”—a colloquial term for sunglasses—as a central gameplay element. Players progress through eight levels inspired by various traditional game genres, including rhythm games and side-scrolling shooters, creating a varied gameplay experience that blends classic arcade mechanics with XR technology.
The announcement reflects the shifting landscape of the virtual reality industry, which has faced significant economic headwinds in recent years. By transitioning to XR development, Owlchemy Labs is adapting its approach to capitalize on emerging spatial computing platforms. The timing of Hyper Visor’s release as a launch title for the XREAL Aura headset positions the game as a flagship experience for HTC’s new device.
