Phantom Blade Zero Physical Edition Disc Release Revealed
Phantom Blade Zero, the wuxia action RPG developed by Beijing-based studio S-Game, will receive a physical release in 2027, several months after its digital launch. The game launches digitally on October 28-29, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, with the disc version coming to PS5 later next year.
S-Game announced the physical release news as a stinger at the end of its launch trailer, addressing concerns about the industry’s increasing shift toward digital-only releases. The physical version will be available in three PS5 editions: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition featuring a collectible steel case. Pricing is expected to mirror the digital versions, with the base game currently priced at £54.99 / $59.99, with the Deluxe Edition adding £10 / $10.
Phantom Blade Zero is a soulslike action RPG drawing heavy inspiration from real-world martial arts techniques and challenging soulslike gameplay mechanics. The developer notably brought in action movie star Donnie Yen as a consultant to help refine the game’s combat design. S-Game is the Beijing-based studio known for the Rainblood series.
The announcement reflects a compromise in current industry release strategies, where publishers balance digital distribution efficiency against demand for physical media. This phased approach—digital launch followed by a delayed physical release—has become increasingly common as publishers navigate evolving market dynamics around digital storefronts and physical retail availability.
