AMD says its working on FSR’s frame pacing issues, but there’s still conspicuously no mention of Multi Frame Generation

AMD is working to improve its FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) frame generation technology by addressing frame pacing issues. Jack Huynh announced that FSR 4.1 would be released early to RX 6000 graphics card owners, accompanied by improvements targeting frame pacing performance. This represents AMD’s response to criticism regarding the consistency and quality of its frame generation implementation.

Frame generation has become a prominent feature in the latest GPU generation, though implementation approaches vary between vendors. Nvidia offers Multi Frame Generation technology for RTX 4070 Super cards, which generates multiple synthetic frames per native frame. AMD’s FSR aims to deliver similar performance benefits through frame generation, but has received scrutiny regarding frame pacing consistency—how smoothly generated frames integrate with native frames during gameplay. The announcement of FSR 4.1 notably does not mention Multi Frame Generation capabilities for AMD’s implementation.

The early FSR 4.1 rollout to existing RX 6000 users demonstrates AMD’s commitment to improving the experience for its customer base and addressing technical challenges in frame generation as the technology becomes increasingly important for GPU market positioning.
