Helldivers 3? Not Unless It’s Very Different from Helldivers 2, Says Arrowhead

Arrowhead Game Studios has indicated it has no immediate plans for Helldivers 3, with chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt stating that a sequel would only make sense if it diverged significantly from the current game—different enough that both titles could coexist. The alternative condition for a sequel would be if Helldivers 2’s player count declined substantially. Currently, the studio is maintaining its focus on the successful live service shooter, with 95% of its staff dedicated to supporting and developing Helldivers 2. A small team has begun prototyping Arrowhead’s next unannounced project. Since its launch, Helldivers 2 has proven to be one of the more successful recent live service games, with players continuing to actively engage with the title. Rather than cannibalizing the existing game’s playerbase, Arrowhead appears committed to sustaining Helldivers 2 as a long-term platform, suggesting the studio sees value in maintaining a singular, thriving experience rather than pursuing a traditional sequel approach. This approach reflects broader industry trends of live service games receiving extended support rather than being replaced by numbered sequels.
