Capcom affected by data breach, over 11.7m Capcom ID accounts compromised
Capcom has confirmed a significant data breach affecting over 11.7 million Capcom ID accounts, with unauthorized access occurring on October 19. Capcom ID is a unified account system used across the publisher’s portfolio to enable online play, multiplayer functionality, and web services for titles including Street Fighter 6, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil.
The breach exposed email addresses and system-specific identifiers for the majority of affected accounts. A smaller subset experienced more granular data exposure: 43 accounts had date of birth, gender, country/region, and nickname accessed, while 196 accounts saw unauthorized password changes.
Capcom stated that customer-set passwords have not been confirmed as compromised. The publisher has apologized for the incident and has implemented emergency response measures to address the breach.
