Based on player data, Capcom’s pretty happy with the difficulty level of Onimusha: Way of the Sword: ‘We think it’s hit the right spot’
Capcom reports being satisfied with the difficulty balance of Onimusha: Way of the Sword based on player data, stating they believe they’ve “hit the right spot.” The game faced early criticism when viral clips suggested it was too easy, with basic enemies seemingly unresponsive. These concerns were particularly prominent during the demo period and after the game’s release last month, with some players worried it would lack the challenge found in demanding action titles like Sekiro, Nioh, and Ninja Gaiden.
However, upon full release, many of these difficulty concerns proved largely unfounded. The game’s design features deliberately weak basic enemies that serve primarily as cannon fodder for players to cut through while exploring, while bosses present significantly greater challenges. This disparity between standard enemy difficulty and boss encounters appears to be intentional design rather than poor balancing. Capcom’s statement indicates the publisher has monitored gameplay data and feels the overall difficulty progression aligns with their intended design goals.
