Mass Effect-Style Game Exodus Picked a Hell of a Time to Reveal Its Redesigned Male Protagonist
Archetype Entertainment has unveiled a redesigned character model for Jun Aslan, the male protagonist of Exodus, an upcoming sci-fi RPG launching on Xbox in April 2027. The redesign responds to widespread negative fan feedback about the original design, with players criticizing the character’s appearance as having a “long face,” “beady eyes,” and excessively smooth, artificial-looking features.
The new design presents a more conventionally attractive protagonist with prominent cheekbones and refined facial features. Fan reception to the redesigned character has been notably more positive, with comparisons to conventional media figures and media-trained appearances.
The timing of this character reveal coincides with heightened industry attention following Electronic Arts’ announcement that BioWare was being shut down and the next Mass Effect title was cancelled. Exodus has been positioned as a spiritual successor to Mass Effect, and the character redesign underscores the game’s potential as an alternative for fans of the sci-fi RPG genre. The game offers player choice, allowing players to select either a male or female version of Jun Aslan when they play.
