Taylor Sheridan’s Call of Duty Adaptation Will Have ‘Soul,’ Director Says

Writer and creator Taylor Sheridan is set to adapt Activision’s Call of Duty franchise into a major feature film scheduled for 2028 release. Directing the project is Peter Berg, known for his work on acclaimed modern military films including The Kingdom and Lone Survivor.

Sheridan brings significant experience in crafting action-oriented narratives, having written several successful thriller films including Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Without Remorse—the latter drawing inspiration from Tom Clancy’s military fiction universe. In recent years, he has also achieved major success in television, creating the blockbuster franchises Yellowstone and the drama series Landman, both for Paramount.

In promoting his latest war film, The Mosquito Bowl, Berg spoke about the collaboration, noting that Sheridan is bringing distinctive qualities to the Call of Duty adaptation. According to Berg, the filmmaker is infusing the project with what he describes as “soul”—suggesting an approach that goes beyond typical video game adaptation fare to deliver a story with emotional depth and character-driven narrative.
