Vinland Saga Creator Gives a Heartbreaking Update on the Anime’s Third Season

Vinland Saga creator Makoto Yukimura has confirmed that the anime adaptation’s third season is not currently in development. Responding to a fan inquiry on X, Yukimura stated: “Sorry my friend, I have no good news about that. The project is not currently in progress.”

The acclaimed manga series, which explores themes of war and violence through its complex characters and historical setting, was first adapted into an anime by Wit Studio in 2019. The second season, produced by MAPPA, aired in 2023 to critical acclaim. Since then, the fanbase has been eagerly awaiting news of a continuation.

Yukimura’s statement provides direct clarification on the project’s status after months of speculation. Neither Kodansha, the publisher of the original manga, nor MAPPA has issued official announcements regarding a potential third season. This suggests that while the possibility of the anime’s return theoretically remains open, there are currently no active development plans in place.

The confirmation will likely disappoint dedicated fans who have been anticipating updates, though extended hiatuses between anime seasons are not uncommon due to various production and commercial considerations.
