FBI investigating theft of more than 6000 PSA-graded trading cards, including almost 3000 Pokémon cards
Federal authorities are investigating the theft of over 6,000 PSA-graded trading cards, including approximately 3,000 Pokémon cards, stolen from a FedEx truck in California on October 13th. The FBI and Santa Ana Police Department launched the investigation after the items disappeared from a FedEx vehicle following pickup at PSA’s Santa Ana facility. A total of 6,451 items were taken from the shipment.
PSA, the professional trading card authentication and grading company, confirmed the investigation and stated that “recovering every stolen item and returning it to its owner is our top priority.” The company has fully cooperated with investigators, providing video footage, shipment manifests, and detailed item-level records. PSA has published a comprehensive list of all stolen cards, including their individual certification numbers, to aid in recovery efforts.
The theft represents a significant incident in the collectible card market, given the substantial monetary value of authenticated and graded cards. The high proportion of Pokémon cards in the shipment indicates the stolen goods carry considerable worth, as PSA-graded Pokémon cards typically command premium prices among collectors.
