HBO Max is bringing back Calcifer’s Yule Log, an ambient video inspired by Studio Ghibli’s beloved animated film “Howl’s Moving Castle,” for the holiday season beginning November 1. The cozy fireside video originally debuted on HBO Max in 2021 but was subsequently removed from the service and largely scrubbed from the broader internet before its seasonal return became part of the streamer’s holiday programming strategy.
The video now joins HBO Max’s expanding “Yule Log” lineup, which caters to viewers seeking ambient, meditative content during the holiday season. The collection includes other franchises and properties such as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Harry Potter, and Rick and Morty, giving subscribers various options for atmospheric background viewing. While a Warner Bros. press release confirms the November 1 return, the company has not yet specified whether Calcifer’s Yule Log will become a permanent fixture on the service or if it will again be removed after the holiday season concludes.
