Who’s making games for iPhone Duo? Mostly indies, for now

Apple’s App Store editors have curated 20 games highlighted as “standouts” for the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The selection reveals a landscape dominated by independent developers and small studios rather than major publishers, with only three Apple Arcade titles and notably few titles from established mobile publishers included.

The majority of featured games come from solo creators and small development teams. Notable selections include Tomasz Szykulski’s Toastie: Grilled Cheese Game, Klemens Strasser’s Art of Flora: Cozy Jigsaw, Brian Corrieri’s Battlefleet Duo, Hernan Rosario’s FleetFold, and Cromulent Labs’ Marbles Unhinged: Folding Maze. Several of these titles launched within the past few weeks, with their names and designs explicitly acknowledging and leveraging the iPhone Duo’s distinctive foldable form factor.

The heavy representation of indie developers in Apple’s official launch selection suggests that independent creators are driving early innovation for the foldable device. While major publishers have been cautious about committing resources to foldable-specific experiences, smaller developers have responded more quickly to experiment with and showcase the unique gameplay possibilities enabled by the device’s unique hardware capabilities.
