Street Fighter Star Reveals Disappointment with Movie’s Ending
Capcom’s Street Fighter movie, released in October 2026, has underperformed at the box office compared to the studio’s other 2026 video game adaptation, Resident Evil. While critics have noted the film’s messy and occasionally incoherent narrative, it has found appeal among viewers seeking stylish action sequences and ’90s music.
The film’s primary narrative weakness is its abrupt ending. Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li, has publicly expressed disappointment with the story’s conclusion, particularly that M. Bison (David Dastmalchian) manages to escape despite orchestrating the central plot. Bison’s scheme involves running a fraudulent tournament designed to lure the renowned fighter Ryu (Andrew Koji) out of hiding so he can steal from him, but the villain’s evasion of consequences left Liang unsatisfied with the resolution.
The actor’s candid criticism reflects broader concerns about the film’s structural flaws. Despite these narrative shortcomings, Street Fighter has successfully delivered on spectacle and entertainment value for audiences prioritizing action over plot coherence. However, the film’s underperformance relative to Resident Evil suggests that even star-driven action vehicles cannot guarantee commercial success in the challenging video game adaptation market, where translating interactive properties to cinema remains difficult for studios.
