New Surface Laptop Ultra firmware update fixes screen flickering and long reboot times
Microsoft has released the first firmware update for the Surface Laptop Ultra, its newly launched premium laptop. The update, version 200.0.7.0, arrived on October 22—just six days after the device’s launch—addressing several critical issues reported by early users.
The firmware fixes three major problems: screen flickering that some users experienced during normal operation, excessively long reboot times that hampered productivity, and blue screen of death (BSOD) errors. These issues had generated concern among early adopters and reviewers of the high-end device since its debut.
The update is distributed through Windows Update, Microsoft’s standard update mechanism, making it easily accessible to all Surface Laptop Ultra users. The relatively quick turnaround suggests Microsoft was actively monitoring user feedback from the launch period and prioritized addressing hardware-related stability issues.
This type of post-launch firmware update is typical for premium hardware devices, particularly when users discover issues not caught during development testing. The surface issues addressed—display problems, reboot performance, and system stability—are fundamental to the user experience and would impact adoption if left unresolved.
