Here’s Another Mass Effect 5 Leak To Break Your Heart

Following EA’s shutdown of BioWare and cancellation of Mass Effect 5 (also known as Mass Effect: Universe), award-winning composer Austin Wintory has released over 20 minutes of early musical drafts he created for the project.

Wintory, known for his acclaimed soundtracks for Journey, Sword of the Sea, Stray Gods, and numerous other games and films, revealed that he had been in serious conversation with BioWare and EA about scoring the upcoming Mass Effect revival. While the music represents an audition or starting point rather than officially commissioned work, it demonstrates the early creative direction being explored for the project.

The release comes in the wake of last week’s leak of a mysterious Mass Effect: Universe trailer, adding another poignant reminder of the game that will no longer be completed. Wintory’s gesture of sharing the music appears to be a tribute to the project and team he was helping develop.

The music release underscores the broader impact of EA’s decision to shut down the storied developer, which had been working on this new chapter of the Mass Effect franchise following the mixed reception of Mass Effect: Andromeda.
