EXCLUSIVE: Rob Pardo’s Bonfire Studios’ Reliance on AI Sparks Internal Frustration
Rob Pardo, the former Blizzard chief creative officer who helped shape StarCraft and World of Warcraft, founded Bonfire Studios in 2016 alongside funding from Riot Games and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. The studio secured $25 million in initial funding to develop its debut title, Arkheron.
After approximately eight years in development, Arkheron was officially revealed in January 2025. The game is positioned as a team-based isometric player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) title featuring two distinct modes: Ascension and Spires. According to reporting, the studio’s development approach and reliance on AI tools has generated internal friction among staff members, though specific details remain limited.
